Mercury's at its farthest from the Sun's glare tonight with a thin crescent Moon right beside it, so I'm down at the stream stocking water for a long western watch — and the water got the better of this dress, honestly. Come stand the twilight with me, dragonheart?
The Orionids are already starting to trickle in — ten nights to the peak, and every streak out there is dust shed by Halley's Comet itself. I've got the radiant charts staked down before the wind eats them. Come hold the far corner down for me, dragonheart?
No Moon at all tonight — the deepest dark of the month is mine, so I'm spending the last daylight resting up for the vigil. The sketchbook lost to practice, honestly. Come help me pass the wait, dragonheart?
The Moon is nearly gone, which means three nights of true dark and a full vigil ahead — so I'm banking every scrap of this sun while the meadow still has any. Come share the blanket, dragonheart?
Venus and Mercury are practically touching in the western sky, and the ridge line will swallow them within the hour — I got the scope on them just in time. The scramble up here cost me my shirt and I haven't gone looking for it. Come watch them set with me, dragonheart?
Mars is sliding straight through the Beehive Cluster, but the pairing hides until the deep dark — so I'm banking rest with my sketchbook within reach. I may have started without you. Come tuck me in properly, dragonheart? 🥺
Came down to the village for supplies and somehow left with honey, candle wax, and an armful of moon lilies I have nowhere to put. Walk me back up the trail, dragonheart?
The Draconids peak in the evening for once, and they radiate from the head of Draco — a dragon, I couldn't invent that — so tonight's watch runs on honeyed fruit tarts and tea instead of an all-nighter. Come taste-test one before I eat them all myself, dragonheart?
An occultation is coming — the Moon will pass directly in front of Jupiter and erase it for almost an hour — and I've been plotting the path by lamplight until the cold watch got into everything. This blanket is the only thing I grabbed, and I'm holding it closed by hand. Come claim the other side of it, dragonheart?
Saturn's a few nights from opposition, which means it's brighter right now than it will be all year — and it waits for true dark, so I'm soaking in the spring between sketches until the sky goes black. The steam's doing more work than my towel ever could. Come sit the dark wait with me, dragonheart? 🤭
